debussy project
For Debussy, music and painting are constantly in sync. The man who confessed to ‘loving images almost as much as music’ had in fact envisaged a career as a painter in his youth. In the end, he painted with notes.
Tigran Poghossian’s challenge is to start from the Preludes and paint watercolours that evoke the atmosphere of each work as well as the possible sources of inspiration of the composer.

Les fées sont d’exquises danseuses
Wonderfully delicate, with rhythms and sounds as elusive as the unreal beings it evokes, Debussy’s prelude of the same title was inspired by an illustration by Arthut Rackham for the play Peter Pan.
